Understanding Our Approach

At EASTWOOD STUDIO, every piece originates from a singular creative process: the study of textile archives, the detailed documentation of historical garments, and the reconstruction of techniques that have sometimes disappeared.

Our practice is closer to a research atelier than to industrial production. It relies on rare gestures, period tools, and specialised workshops in France and Japan.

This level of exigence naturally leads us to produce in measured quantities, at the pace of the know-how we seek to preserve.

To reflect this approach faithfully, we have developed two distinct distribution formats: the Atelier Edition and the Retail Edition.

Atelier Edition

The piece as it leaves the atelier

The Atelier Edition corresponds to the pieces we offer directly from our studio, in limited quantities. They are developed in small batches, within French and Japanese workshops with which we collaborate in short production circuits.

These pieces are offered at a direct atelier price, without intermediaries.

This model allows us to propose highly crafted garments — chainstitch embroidery on vintage machines, hand-painted Baranil leather, semi-manual post-war techniques — while maintaining a price aligned with the reality of artisanal production.

Each creation is accompanied by the archival study that guided its development, giving the wearer a complete understanding of the garment: its history, references, construction, and the gestures that shape it.

The Atelier Edition represents the most intimate and direct expression of our work.

Retail Edition

The edition dedicated to our multi-brand partners

The Retail Edition refers to the pieces intended for our partner boutiques and concept stores.

It follows a price structure adapted to wholesale, allowing retailers to apply their margin while remaining consistent within a premium retail environment.

Retail Edition pieces are not positioned in competition with Atelier Edition pieces: they belong to a different economic model, designed for the stores that support our work and help it shine.

Each Retail Edition receives the same level of care: material selection, respect for original techniques, rigorous control, and archival documentation.

The only difference lies in the distribution structure.

Why Two Editions?

Because our approach is fundamentally artisanal and research-driven.

Producing in small quantities, at the pace of specialised workshops, does not always align with the economic models imposed by traditional retail.

By distinguishing Atelier Edition from Retail Edition, we can:

  • maintain the coherence of our archival work,

  • respect our partner ateliers and their constraints,

  • offer direct access to our rarest pieces,

  • and collaborate with selective boutiques without compromising our creative integrity.

This structure allows us to preserve a balance between creation, transmission, and long-term viability.

Commitments

Regardless of the format — Atelier Edition or Retail Edition — every EASTWOOD STUDIO piece adheres to three core principles:

1. Archive-Based Design

Each garment is born from archival study, a historical model, or an original technique reinterpreted.

2.Craftsmanship as Value

The pieces are developed in French and Japanese workshops that preserve rare techniques, some unique in the world.

3.Transmission

We accompany each creation with its research study, sharing the textile culture that informs our work.
